This week we are featuring some of our favorite holiday proposal stories!
The Christmas Proposal: The Best Gift Ever
All I want for Christmas is…youuuuuu. Ashlee got the gift of a lifetime for Christmas, read about it below:
“My husband, but at the time boyfriend, Daniel and I went out to eat the day after Christmas so we could exchange gifts because we weren’t together Christmas day. He told me that his sister had given him a gift card to a nice restaurant, so we went there to eat. After eating we walked by the waterway where they had a giant, beautiful Christmas tree. We sat down on a bench nearby and Daniel asked me to close my eyes for 3 gifts and asked me to guess what they were each time. The last gift was my engagement ring which belonged to my grandmother who passed away when I was very young.
He asked me to stand up and told me to open my eyes, and when I did he was down on one knee and asked me to marry him! He tried putting the ring on the wrong finger, of course! And I said yes, of course! I later found out that his sister didn’t give him that gift card, he just didn’t want me to suspect anything about a fancy restaurant, and it definitely worked!”
The Fourth of July Proposal: A Proposal Where Sparks Literally Fly
The average person only has one day a year where they can propose with fireworks! Read the story of how Paul proposed to Stephanie on the Fourth of July:
“Paul proposed to me on the 4th of July in 2015, my favorite holiday. Paul was acting very peculiar that day. The time came for the fireworks to start, we went to the fireworks every year. Paul grabbed my hand as the fireworks started like he always did, but this time his pulse in his wrist was beating like crazy! I was concerned and thought something was really wrong!
About half way through the fireworks, Paul got down on one knee with a light blue box in his hand and asked me to marry him. I of course said YES! He proposed to me with was his grandmother’s ring and it has their initial engraved along with their wedding date (2-14-53). The blue box was the box that Paul’s mother’s ring came in when she was proposed to. The fireworks weren’t the only things popping that 4th of July- he popped the question!!”
The Thanksgiving Proposal: A Very Thankful Proposal
What’s better than stuffing your face on Thanksgiving? Getting engaged of course! Elizabeth finally got the engagement she had been waiting for on Thanksgiving! Read her story down below:
“HE PUT A RING ON IT! After months of begging him to give me a ring (which I knew he had). Thanksgiving Day Thursday November 26th was the day. We were having our second annual Anderson-Squirek joint family Thanksgiving celebration. Even though all day there was clues; this girl was not smart enough to put 2 and 2 together. Jake keep insisting that I bring a nice outfit to dinner, mom wouldn’t let me drink and his sister wasn’t talking at all (anyone who knows Cassie knows that’s weird). Still nothing clued me in.
My parents, my five siblings, his parents, his sister and my brother on FaceTime all in the living room; as per tradition we go around saying what we are thankful for. I started and was already crying because talking about the most amazing man and new family I have gained in the last two years brings me to tears.
As everyone shared what they were thankful for I cried a little more because of the love and connections we had all made. Without even realizing it Jacob hadn’t said what he was thankful for. While Jacob started talking, my brother Dawson and his sister Cassie took their phones out. Being so upset that they would be texting during this time I was hardly paying attention to what Jake was saying.
Then he turned to me and said “the one thing I’m most thankful for is my beautiful girlfriend, who is my best friend and partner in crime. Then it all clicked and I blurted “oh my God, are you proposing to me right now?” He got down on one knee and said “Elizabeth Linday will you marry me?” While blubbering uncontrollably, I said YES!”
