The Family Vacation Proposal: When Two Families Become One
A wedding is more than just the union between two people, it’s often about the union of two families. It is always special when family is included in a proposal. Kristianth brought two families together when he proposed to Jenna. Read their story down below:
“Jenna’s extended family vacations on a little island in Michigan every summer. Mackinac island, the jewel of the Great Lakes, is a beautiful island where time moves at the pace of horse-drawn carriages and bicycles. She has spent every summer here since she can remember, and would frequently talk to me about her special island and all of her favorite family memories she had made there. Her favorite place to visit on the island is the magnificent Grand Hotel. This hotel is so rich in history and tradition and has been in operation since 1887. She always bragged that it held the most beautiful views of the entire island.
In July of 2016 Jenna was ecstatic to be heading back to her favorite vacation spot. She spent the weekend biking the island, boating in the marina, and eating ice cream with her cousins. While on the phone with me she told me the only thing that would have completed her vacation would have been to have me by her side. Little did she know that I was planning a surprise proposal for her on that charming, little island.
On Saturday morning her family convinced her to get dolled up and take photos around the island (this is not uncommon as both her dad and aunt are professional photographers).
They walked to her favorite place on the island, the fountain on the grounds of The Grand Hotel, and began taking photos. As they took photos my family and I snuck around the back side of the fountain.
She was completely shocked to say the least! With her sister videotaping, I got down on one knee, told her how much she means to me and how I could not imagine my life without her. I asked her to marry me, she said yes and both of our families (and onlookers) cheered like crazy!
Her mom had brought champagne to pop, my parents brought chocolates to pass and her cousin brought an “engaged on Mackinac Island” charm for us to hold in photos. We could not have possibly been any happier than in that moment.
We spent the next half hour celebrating with both of our families and taking photos that we will cherish forever. It meant so much to both of us to have both of our families support and love while taking the next steps in our relationship
Not only did I have to sneakily orchestrate this surprise with her entire family, I had to drive my family six hours up to northern Michigan, take a ferry boat over to the island and hide on the grounds of the hotel while Jenna and her family walked around taking pictures. I give both of our families major props for keeping their mouths shut throughout the entire surprise proposal.
I knew how special the fountain and island was to Jenna and wanted to make sure I proposed at her absolute favorite spot. We are so thankful, blessed and excited for the years to come.”
The Cruise Proposal: A Family Affair
For some brides life doesn’t always go as planned. But as the saying goes, one door closes so another can open! Read bride Melyanda’s heartfelt story below:
“Me and my fiance Ryan started as friends. I went through a very messy divorce and he helped me through it. We became very close and began dating. Over the course of my two year divorce my son, who was 14 at the time, stopped talking to me. It was a year before I got to see him. In March of 2016, he came back into my life and in May of 2016 we took him on a cruise. On the last night of the cruise my son and I went up on the top deck. We had been there for a little while and I told him that we should go find Ryan. As we were walking back, we met him. He said let’s go watch the sunset.
As we came to the front of the ship a photographer showed up. I didn’t think much of it because they were everywhere on the ship. As we were watching the sunset Ryan turned to me and said “looks like we are going to get our picture on the wall.” I laughed and said “yep, we probably will.” Ryan kissed me on the cheek and said “especially since I’m doing this.” He bent on his knee opened the ring box and asked me to marry him. Of course I said yes. Apparently he and my son had planned the whole thing. My son was just as excited as I was. It was a wonderfully beautiful moment, especially having my son there and knowing that he approved.”
A “Wild” Proposal : A Proposal That Lights Up the Night
There is something undeniably romantic about seeing lights at Christmas time. Jess and Luke got to share a night they would never forget with both of their families! Read their story down below:
“Every year for the past few years Jess and her family have been going to the Wild Lights, either in Columbus or Cincinnati. Luke was usually there with the family, and this year went like any other…at first. The family rode to Columbus together and got stuck in traffic at the gate, as is the norm. When they finally got inside they started viewing the animals that everyone wanted to see. This year was slightly different than past years, Luke’s family was coming down to join in the festivities. They arrived and the family was having a great time viewing the animals. This is the first time Luke’s family and Jessica’s family have met, Jessica was made to believe that this was due to the holidays.
At one point Pam, Luke’s mom, stated that she wanted to get some family photos since it won’t be often that the whole family can get together. She suggested a semi-secluded area with the lights as a background and the family got to photographing. At one point Pam asked Jess to sit on a bench under some lights and started taking photos, then Luke walked up to her, kneeled down in front of her. His words with a smiling face were “I know you’ve been wanting this for a long time, will you marry me?” Jess couldn’t speak to say yes, but she shook her head and with extreme excitement already had the ring on her finger as she jumped up and kissed Luke. Then she buried her head into Luke’s chest and began crying tears of joy.
The family and some bystanders applauded and the family began to warmly welcome the two into the family.
Needless to say…the Wildlights will never be the same again!”
The Hopeful Proposal: Another Chance at Love
No love story is the same. We all find love at different times and under different circumstances. Donna is no ordinary bride, read her inspiring story below:
“At the age of 54, I had successfully raised 3 daughter’s, managed to survive an awful abusive marriage, beaten Esophageal cancer by God’s grace, and was caring for my elderly Mother. But, I was lonely. Everyone seemed to have a life but me. I didn’t have much time to socialize much because of Mom. Do I dare try online dating? Lots of horror stories. But then I thought, oh well, what’s $28.00 ?
After several meet ups, I was ready to throw in the towel. But wait, who’s this handsome fellow that just sent me a “wink”? Well, as it turned out, Timothy was the Prince I had always dreamed of. Could he really be that sweet? You bet.
After dating for year, my cancer came back with avengence. This time Stage 3. I was unsure of what his reaction would be, but during the chemo and radiation he took care of Mom and myself on days where I was sick. I had to be admitted to hospital for dehydration, fever and low blood count.
One night, and I’m going to be disgustingly honest, as I was throwing up in a pan, in my hospital bed….the door opens, and Tim rushes over and places his arms around me and says, “Baby, hang in. God is going to make you better, because I need you to be my wife.” All I can say is wow. Our wedding is set for 9-16-2017. On a small budget, we are having a beautiful Church wedding. I never had one before. This is my LOVE story and I cannot wait to become his bride.”
