This week we are celebrating military proposals!
The Army Proposal: The Universal Language of Love
At Gourmet Weddings we love the troops and military weddings! Myles and Ashley were stationed in Korea when they met and began their love story. Read their story down below:
“Myles and I were both stationed in Korea and had fallen in love very fast and very hard. We were officially dating by late November. One weekend we had booked this amazing mini trip to Seoul for the entire weekend. We had an amazing hotel suite and had planned on doing a lot of activities and sightseeing over the weekend. On the first night of our weekend we had taken the subway to downtown and went out for dinner and drinks. After dinner we walked around sightseeing. We were getting closer to our hotel, when my husband saw a big group of people with music and lights, and we went to go look what it was.
There was an old city with a castle and original Korean homes. There were performers in authentic Korean clothing doing a performance with dragons and ancient Korean dances. When the show was coming to an end, the music softened as he got down on one knee and asked if I would be his wife. I said yes and he put the ring on my finger. As he kissed and hugged me the music started up again and everyone applauded and cheered. My husband and I got to join in the final dance and it was something spectacular! We may not all speak the same language but love speaks to all.”
The Graduation Proposal: Middle School Sweethearts
Some of us find love at 20, some of us find love at 50, and others find it at 12! Read the story of Alura who met her fiance when she was in the 7th grade:
“I had just graduated Basic Military Training and my family flew down for the weekend along with my boyfriend. I’ve known him since the 7th grade. We dated for a while but it didn’t last, I call him my middle school sweet heart. We started dating again a month after I graduated high school. We never went to prom, so we made date night our prom night! He is my guardian angel. He faced his fear of flying just to come see me graduate.
My parents took everyone back to the hotel to relax and hang out. I went to my boyfriend’s room and he went to the bathroom. I didn’t know it at the time but he was practicing his speech! He came out of the bathroom and began saying these really nice things me. I remember thinking, “aw he really missed me!” Then towards the end he asked me to marry him as he pulled the ring out of his sweatshirt. I cried and of course said yes.”
The “I Never Want to Get Married” Proposal: One Bride Changes Her Mind
Julia had never thought she was the type of person who wanted to get married. Randall changed all of that! Read their story down below:
Our story is a typical military one: we had been dating and living together for three years. Randall said he was joining the military, left for basic training and the letters commenced. Halfway through training, he found out that he was going to be stationed in Hawaii (score!). The problem was, I lived in New York and was never the type to want to get married. I loved him and knew I wanted to spend my forever with him, but I wasn’t into the idea of a piece of paper telling me that I loved someone.
However, he was able to come home after training for a week and I got to be the one to pick him up from the airport! We locked eyes and I just knew at that point, I’d do whatever it took to stay with him even if that meant signing a piece of paper. We’re going on eight years together and he is now in the Coast Guard after serving in the Army.
